Are you moving to Geneva or just planning to move within the area and want to know more about Geneva’s neighborhoods? This is another installment in our series profiling each of Geneva’s neighborhoods. We’ve polled our members who live in the various Geneva neighborhoods and asked them all about their neighborhood.
Neighborhood website: http://www.ville-geneve.ch
Location: Located very close to Jean-Jacques bus stop on the Rive Droit side of Geneva.
Favorite thing about Saint-Jean: It’s a quiet neighbourhood but not very far from the main roads. Very well connected to public transport- frequent buses 7,9,6,10 and 19 make it convenient to reach Bel Air, Gare Cornavin and the airport within 15 mins. Also a Coop, Migros and Denner (grocery stores) closeby. There are also many patisseries, restaurants (Chinese and Portuguese) and Tabacs nearby.
Least favorite thing about Saint-Jean: Early morning traffic
How Easy is Trash and Recycling to Deal With? Very easy
Additional Notes about Trash and Recycling: For glass and PET bottles there are bins located at a 3/4 minute walking distance from my building – one close to Coop supermarket and another close to Charmilles mall.
How Convenient is Public Transit? Very convenient
Do You Need a Car in Saint-Jean: Not at all
Additional Notes about Transportation: Street parking is always full. However paid parking is available in the Planete Charmilles mall.
What Kind of People is Saint-Jean Best Suited For? Good for all age groups. For families with young kids there is a public school and parks/green spaces. It’s safe at night and I have never been hassled. Grocery stores and public transit are close so working professionals benefit.
What Amenities does Saint-Jean Have? I can’t comment on the quality of school, however there is a public school in the neighbourhood. There’s a community centre with play area and a big library. There’s also a park near Charmilles.
What is the Nearest Hospital or Urgent Care Facility? The HUG (Hôpitaux Universitaires de Genève) complex is 4 kilometers away.
Anything Else to Add About Saint-Jean? I’ve never had any issues with neighbours.
