Happen to see the front page of today’s Tribune de Genève? An article announced the happy arrival of 10 bouncing St. Bernard puppies at the Fondation Barry in Martigny.
The Fondation continues a 300-year-old tradition of breeding the famous Swiss dog (and is named after a particularly legendary one, Barry.) About 20 puppies (the majority are the short-haired variety of St. Bernard) are born each year, and are available for purchase for 2600 Fr.
But perhaps you’re seeking the ultimate Swiss photo op, with snowy mountains in the background as a St. Bernard pulls your child along in a sled, or walks by your side as you hold the leash? Then make the trip to Martigny (about 1.5 hours from Geneva by car) and visit the Fondation each weekend between now and March 1, 2020 for a winter walk with a St. Bernard.
You can purchase tickets online here. Price for an adult is 35 Fr., and children (ages 2-17) are 15 Fr. Children under two years old are free. The dates are below:
January 2020: 5., 12., 19., 26.
February 2020: 1./2., 8./9., 15./16., 22./23., 29.
March 2020: 1.
Each walk lasts 45 minutes, and children up to age 10 can be pulled in a sled by a St. Bernard. For more details, visit here.

What a wonderful idea and excursion! My mother had a St. Bernard when she was growing up that came from Switzerland! The dog’s name was Princess Edelweiss and yes, I did check years ago if she did come from the Hospice and she had. My best to all that explore this very interesting activity.
Thank you, Penny! That is amazing that your mother had a St. Bernard from the hospice, and of course the name is so fitting, Princess Edelweiss!
Actually a wonderful story! Unfortunately I can no longer share it with her but… Thank you for your reply. Hopefully I will see you in the New Year. Penny
