As a committed cyclist I love GeneveRoule – a non-profit association with a dual objective: to promote cycling and to offer work opportunities to those needing to reintegrate to the workforce.  GeneveRoule have been in Geneva since 2002.

All the services they offer are carried out by 220 employees, representing more than 50 different nationalities who are looking to return to work. The employees can regain confidence, get training and get closer to the job market. Genèveroule works with asylum seekers, refugees, social welfare recipients, young job seekers and unemployed people reaching the end of their entitlements.

And what services do they offer?

Bike rental – three shops offer short and long term rent (one week plus) all year around.  Rates are reasonable and there are plenty of options on offer including tandems, kids bikes, trailers and my favourite the electric bike.

FREE half day bike loan – from the end of April to the end of October there are 8 more lending stations where you can borrow a bike (city or electric) for free for four hours.  Great if you have visitors and looking for an afternoon entertainment.

Repair and second hand bike sales – the shops offer very reasonably priced repair services and bike servicing. I can personally vouch for the efficiency and cost of brake repairs, new tyres and servicing.  They have a number of second hand bikes on offer on their website.

On road (or bike path) Breakdown assistance – Puncture? Dodgy brakes? GeneveRoule are at your service from Monday to Saturday from 7am to 6pm. Depending on the problem, the ‘flying mechanics’ will either take your bike to the repair shop of your choice or fix your bike onsite. They will also provide courtesy bikes when your bike is being repaired. You can take out an annual subscription for cover or pay as you need.

Bike tours – both in the city and in the countryside and even à la carte are offered all summer and in winter on demand.

Event management – bike repair workshops, cycling team events and group hire rates.

Please support this organisation who are offering employment opportunities for a great number of people who all offer a great service and who all really know their BIKE stuff.
