This weekend is all about free music throughout Geneva. Our parks, music and concert halls, churches and the Grütli cinema invite you to wander around and enjoy the 25th annual Fête de la Musique this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
From 9 in the morning until a bit past midnight the city of Geneva will be in full swing. The online program can be found here. It’s possible to sort the days by music style, location, time of day, or artist; plus they’ve added separate tabs listing family and commune programs.
My parents arrive on Saturday morning so what better way to experience Geneva that walking around listening to music? We won’t just visit St. Pierre’s Cathedral; we will sit and listen to the Camarata du Leman, a chamber orchestra that practices in our AIWC Clubrooms. I also plan to take a bottle of chilled white wine to listen to AIWC member Martine Banoun and her jazz Quartet in the Old Town at the Terrasse Agrippa d’Aubigné. There’s even something for my son – NWA, Straight out of Compton will be playing at the Grütli Cinema.
Transportation: Parking in the city center will be restricted so rather than wasting your time searching for parking, download the TPG app and hop on a bus or tram. The Night Busses (N Lines) run until about 3AM. There will also be a free bus every ten minutes that connects the two banks of the city (stops can be seen in this photo).
Food and Drinks: In addition to restaurants, the food trucks will be out in full force. If you haven’t been to a festival, yet; be prepared to pay a deposit for a reusable cup. The price might have increased from CHF 2 to CHF 5 but don’t worry, once you’re ready to leave you can get your money back. Just be watchful of kids trying to make a quick buck if they find your empty, unattended cup lying on a table.
