Us Anglophones are always on the look out for English language comedy.  Received wisdom being that comedy doesn’t really translate!  Whether it does or does not is not really the point – whereas an evening out with lots of laughs is!  The AIWC has a new activity seeking out English comedy and organizing a group of us and our partners and friends to go along.

The International Comedy Club was established in Switzerland in 2006 with the aim of bringing the very best of English speaking comedy to the region. It is not just a ‘niche expat’ evening out and the audience is both Swiss and internationals alike.  The next event in Geneva is on Thursday, March 31 when star of BBC Radio 4, leading panelist on ITV’s “The Chase”, pub quiz grand master and Edinburgh Fringe Award nominee, Comedy Night in GenevaPaul Sinha returns to Geneva with his highly intelligent and sharp observational stand up, alongside “indie” comedian and surreal heir-apparent to the likes of Noel Fielding and Josie Long, Joey Page.

Then on Wednesday May 11, it’s Birdman v  Smallman – not Batman v Superman – though expect a comedy explosion when these two UK stand ups hit the stage. No CGI, just laughable reality. Globetrotting, erudite Markus Birdman heads the bill with comedy stablemate, the streetwise urban misfit, Jim Smallman, bringing-up a rear-guard comedy action to save the world!

We are a group of international women living in Geneva, Switzerland.  If you would like to join the AIWC, please visit our website at http://www.aiwcgeneva.org/
