Are you moving to Geneva or just planning to move within the area and want to know more about Geneva’s neighborhoods? We’ve polled our members and asked them all about where they live, and this is another installment in our series profiling each of Geneva’s communities.
Name: Messery, France
Location: Living village (as opposed to dormitory) with all facilities: school, play ground, doctor who speaks English, pharmacy, dry-cleaners, grocery store, butchers, choice of bakery, coffee shop, post office beauty parlor, restaurants and beach with snack bar and BBQ area plus bus to and from Geneva.
Favorite thing about Messery: My neighbours and the gorgeous light reflected of the lake that lifts my spirits!
Least favorite thing about Messery: If it only took 10 mins less to get to central Geneva! It takes about ½ an hour in average traffic conditions. Even in ghastly traffic the airport is max 1 hour.
Why Did You Choose Messery? I wanted my children to experience European countryside and see where food comes from. I wanted us all to learn French. I wanted the younger ones to be able to walk to school. I wanted to live with people who have always lived here and not those who keep moving all the time!
How Easy is Trash and Recycling to Deal With? Very easy
Additional Notes about Trash and Recycling: Two trash pick ups per week. As long as it is in the bin and in a bag they’ll take anything. There are several recycling bins within a ten min walk or you can do it by car at the supermarkets. There are big recycling depots close by. Twice a year big stuff sofas etc is collected for free.
How Convenient is Public Transit? Somewhat convenient
Do You Need a Car in Messery: Not necessarily
Additional Notes about Transportation: Bus handy but infrequent. It is fun to use boat transport to Nyon street parking easy lots of space there is also park and ride from Hermance or Veigy, a 10 min drive.
What Kind of People is Messery Best Suited For? Suitable for all types but if you have teenagers that like to stay out late in Geneva you will have to be prepared to collect from the bus at Hermance as there is no bus service late at night right to Messery.
What Amenities does Messery Have? All. Facilities include: school, play ground, doctor who speaks English, pharmacy, dry-cleaners, grocery store, butchers, choice of bakery, coffee shop, post office beauty parlor, restaurants and beach with snack bar and BBQ area plus bus to and from Geneva, tennis club and choral group, and frequent concerts, plays, and art shows.
What is the Nearest Hospital or Urgent Care Facility? There is a doctor in the village and hospitals in Thonon or Geneva, 10 miles away. You can choose where to go. Just call 112 for the pompiers who are really quick.
