Last Friday, members of the American International Women’s Club of Geneva gathered at the Restaurant du Parc des Eaux-Vives to celebrate Hats Off to Spring! The annual Spring Luncheon featured keynote speaker, the Honorable Nyaradzayi Gumbonzvanda, General Secretary, World Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA).

After an opening reception overlooking Parc des Eaux-Vives and beautiful Lac Leman, attendees enjoyed a delicious lunch featuring an amuse bouche of cream of courgettes or zucchini, fera tartar, chicken fillet with pak choi and creamy polenta, and a strawberry and lemon dessert.

At the meal’s conclusion, keynote speaker Nyaradzayi Gumbonzvanda addressed the group. Gumbonzvanda is General Secretary of the World YWCA and an advocate for ending child, early, and forced marriage. Her inspiring keynote address centered on the potential that lies in every woman, the importance of creating safe spaces for women, and the importance of following one’s dreams. Mme. Gumbonzvanda wove her personal story throughout the speech, emphasizing that no matter one’s circumstances or personal background, any person can be a catalyst for change and leadership. The AIWC sincerely thanks Mme. Gumbonzvanda for being our honored guest and for sharing her story with us all.
