The latest exposition at Palexpo’s Halle 7 is Titanic – l’Exposition. Until December 21, see artifacts salvaged from the wreck, tour corridors and rooms built to scale from the ship’s specifications, walk through a replica of the famous Grand Staircase, and learn about those on board – survivors and victims alike – the RMS Titanic.

My family and I recently spent a weekend morning at the exhibit. The tour (aided with an audio guide, included in ticket price) took us a little more than an hour, though visitors can move at their own pace through the various rooms and displays.
The first section of the exhibit details the lives of the 27 Swiss on board, from first class passengers to staff. Even though the story of the Titanic is well known, the biographical information helped begin the tour on a personal level. There is also a scale model of the ship on display, plus newspaper clippings from the local press (e.g., the Journal de Genève) about the sinking. The next part of the exhibit is devoted to the different sections of the ship, from first class cabins to third class bunks and the Grand Staircase. Items salvaged from the wreck are displayed under glass throughout. The final segment of the exhibit centers on the ship’s sinking, survivors, and ongoing recovery and preservation efforts.

Hours: The exhibit is open 10:00-19:00 until December 21.

Admission and fees: Entrance prices vary by day. Tuesday through Friday, adult tickets cost CHF 22 and tickets for children age 6-15 cost CHF 16. On weekends, adult tickets cost CHF 25 and child tickets cost CHF 18. Special family tickets (2 adults + 2 children or 1 adult + 3 children) cost CHF 64 Tuesday through Friday and CHF 72 on weekends. All Mondays until December 15, there is a reduced cost of CHF 16 for all. Children under age 6 are admitted for free. Click here for the fee schedule. A certain number of people are admitted each hour. You can purchase a queue-jumping ticket in advance for a specific day and time slot; the advance ticket enables you to bypass the ticket counters and go directly to the exhibit entrance (though you will still have to wait in the queue for your audio guide). Advance tickets are available through Fnac and Ticketcorner.

Useful tips: No photography is allowed inside the exhibit. Food and drink are also prohibited. There is a small café with food and drinks set up near the entrance to the exhibit. Restrooms are available inside Halle 7 but there is no access when you are inside the exhibit, so plan accordingly. A coat check is available.
Getting there: Palexpo Halle 7 is located next to the Geneva airport. By car, click here for the plan d’access. The closest car park is P26 at the airport or P12 at Palexpo. By bus, TPG lines 5, 28 and Y, stop at “Arena-Halle 7”. Bus lines 10, 23 and 57 stop at “Aéroport”. By train, the stop is “Genéve-Aéroport” and then follow the signs to Palexpo-Halle 7.
