919151_fOn a Wednesday evening earlier this month, the clubrooms of the AIWC filled with members and their guests for an evening of “Wining and Dining in Geneva and the Swiss Romande” featuring Knut Schwander, head critic for Gault & Millau Suisse Romande, plus a delectable spread of hors d’oeuvres and a selection of local Geneva wines.

After a lively cocktail hour, Mr. Schwander presented the 2014 Gault&Millau Guide Suisse to the audience. The guide provides information about the 360 best restaurants and the 100 best wines throughout Suisse romande. Mr. Schwander detailed the ratings system and review process that Gault&Millau uses, including the significance of the number of “toques” (similar to stars) awarded to each restaurant (between 5 and 19 toques out of 20 possible), and talked about his personal background and interests in the culinary world.

At the end of Mr. Schwander’s presentation, the audience had the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about area restaurants, Gault&Millau, and upcoming events where some of Geneva’s top chefs will appear, such as Geneva’s Salon du Livre April 30-May 4 (click here for more information about Salon du Livre). The evening concluded with a book signing and, of course, more wine and hors d’oeuvres!

The 2014 Gault&Millau Guide Suisse romande is available at area bookstores and online. Although the Gault&Millau Guide for Switzerland does not have its own website, the guide can be purchased from the iTunes App Store. A limited number of copies are also available for purchase during regular business hours at the American International Women’s Club of Geneva.
