Are you moving to Geneva or just planning to move within the area and want to know more about Geneva’s neighborhoods? This another installment in our series profiling each of Geneva’s neighborhoods. We’ve polled our members who live in the various Geneva neighborhoods and asked them all about their neighborhood.

Neighborhood Profile: Vandoeuvres

Name: Vandoeuvres

Neighborhood Website: http://www.vandoeuvres.ch

Location: On the left bank of the lake, Vandoeuvres is a rural community about 5 kms from the center of Geneva. Its a great location since you can be in town quickly or be  in the depth of a nature reserve equally as fast!

Description: Vandœuvres is a small suburban town consisting of three hamlets: Chougny, Crete, and Pressy.

Favorite Thing about Vandoeuvres: Approaching my house and seeing Mont Blanc most days in the summer and winter.

Why Did You Choose Vandoeuvres? Originally, the kids needed a garden (yard) to play in and apartment living did not suit us since we also have a dog. Transport links were good and safe for teenagers to take public transport to school and babysitters and cleaners could come to the house easily.

How Easy is Trash and Recycling to Deal With? very easy

Additional Comments about Trash and Recycling: Recycling is open every day of the week and every sort of ‘bin’ is available from Nespresso capsules to clothing, cans, oil, paper, batteries, glass, and PET. Its no problem to walk or take your car since there’s plenty of space to park

How Convenient is Public Transit? very convenient

Do You Need a Car in Vandoeuvres: neutral (see below)

Other Notes About Transportation: It depends on which side of the commune you live in – the southern end nearer Chene Bougeries has great transport links and a very regular service from 6:00 to 0:30 (6 am to 12.30 am). However, if you live in the ‘Capite’ side of the commune, the bus isn’t very regular and has an hour’s lunch break from 12.30 – 13.30 (13:30 pm – 1:30 pm)! Since having my electric bike (subsidized by the commune who pay CHF 250 towards new bike purchase on presentation of the bill), I can whizz around without a care in the world (except weather)!

What Kind of People is Vandoeuvres Best Suited For? Families with any age kids and retired couples.

What Amenities does Vandoeuvres Have? Lots of good schools, good supermarkets, petrol (gas) station close by, riding schools and country walks. 5 minutes to the French Border and the possibility of shopping in French supermarkets a 10 minute drive away. We had a sick dog whose expensive medication was much cheaper in France and the pharmacy was the first ‘shop’ you came to over the border which proved to be excellent!

What is the Nearest Hospital or Urgent Care Facility? Clinique des Grangettes – 10 minutes away
