I joined the photography group of the AIWC about a year after I joined the club. I have never considered myself a photographer, but I decided that since I had this opportunity to live abroad, it was a great time to develop my photography skills so that I could document my travels. The photography group has themes every month, and we meet up to share ideas and pictures. We also share upcoming photo exhibitions in the area, information about our favorite photographers and websites or classes that are related to the craft.
Occasionally we get together for a photography hike in one of the many scenic places that Switzerland has to offer. This week we met up at a group member’s home in Bellevue and took a hike through a vineyard and down to the lake.
Our group consists of all different levels of photography skills, from professional to novice. Our cameras are equally diverse. When I started with the group, I had a very simple point-and-shoot camera. I have recently upgraded to an SLR camera and invested in an additional lens to broaden my capabilities.
This week, there were 12 of us on the hike. We were able to find a shady cafe down by the lake for a cool beverage and some sorbet. We shared our photos and discussed plans for our upcoming vernissage.
Initially I was intimidated to join this group, but I have found that in is an incredibly encouraging and supportive group to fellowship with!
We are a group of international women living in Geneva, Switzerland. If you would like to join the AIWC, please visit our website at http://www.aiwcgeneva.org/.
